For many years when being a circus performer was my only job, I often go told (or adviced) that I was working with too much #strength.
Why was I making things so hard for myself? Often such suggestions and comments made me feel like something was wrong with me. I was already not the skinny and pretty girl, so I was often doubting myself as it was. So I tried. .
I trained less. I worked more with intention and “just being”. (and of course “JUST BEING” is a wonderful and essential thing!). I got lighter, so it was even easier to #move
smoothly up in the air. I had more time to work mainly on the #tricks
themselves and I got skinnier!
I also got injured. By the time I noticed my #body
was so used to a lazy way of moving, that I couldn’t just drop the #habits
anymore. The new #reality
was being in pain 24 hours a day. It got so bad that even a forward bend freaked me out. For several years.
started my #recovery.
I was able to approach movement again from a different #perspective
and it gave me back #confidence
and joy. But after a while I was actually getting less #flexible
became harder and harder.
Last November I quit all #skill #training
and started working with a personal #coach
on re-building my body. De-construct, then re-construct. Yes, all those annoying little strength exercises with not much fun factor. For months all it was, was work. Forcing myself to do this every day.
Slowly I’m starting to feel a #change.
I feel strength and #life
in my body again. I’m getting back in charge and I am not the victim of continuous physical accidents.
Every once in a while I really really miss just throwing myself around, dancing in the air or even on the ground and expressing myself through movement…
So, all this to realize again: it takes #work.
Things don’t come on a golden tray.
And please don’t allow anyone ever to make you feel like you’re weird!
