You may ask, why van life?
I think there are many different reasons to choose this way of life. For me the choice become a simple answer to live in an manner that felt more aligned to me personally and within the greater context of the time we live in.
The first pull for me was realizing I kept filling my life. Filling my life with more material things, more hobbies, more work, etc. None of these things are inherently “bad” but I noticed as I filled my life with more things I was unable to focus on what felt truly inspiring to me as an individual.
What inspires me is poetry and music. What feels important to me is having space and time to cultivate these skills.
What also feels important is not taking more than I need. As I carved out a variety of options I realized what I needed was a fraction of what I was creating my life around. Taking away these distractions helps me to live simplistic and more aligned to my values.
Of course this choice was influenced by other factors as well. Also, this tiny glimpse of a thought wouldn’t have been able to be a reality for me without the support of my community. Big shout out to @roadies_woodwork for customizing my van in a way that could make this a sustainable way of life for me. Stay tuned to hear more about the other contributing factors which led me to make a bold step to living a little different.
