Sava Savanović (Serbian: Сава Савановић) is one of the most famous vampires in Serbian folklore. He lived in an old watermill on the Rogačica river, at Zarožje village in the municipality of Bajina Bašta. It was said that he killed and drank the blood of the millers when they came to mill their grains.
The watermill is located in the deep valley of the Rogačica river. The location of the mill has been described as a "narrow and dark ravine". For the last several decades the watermill associated with Savanović has been owned by the Jagodić family and is usually called "Jagodića vodenica" (Jagodići's watermill). According to legend, Sava was a wealthy and respected cattle trader. He was honorable, strong and brave. He did not marry for a long time and then fell in love with the daughter of a merchant from the city of Valjevo. However, her father did not allow the marriage because Sava was much older than she was. Then Sava changed… He became so feisty that people began to avoid him. He was rude to the house servant and younger brother Stanko, and his wife and children. It was also reported that he was stealing cattle across Serbia and Bosnia, and then selling it to the people.
There have been cases of attacks by vampire Sava Savanović, similar to those of Petar Blagojević and Arnold Paole: Night attacks, strangulation, etc. and the locals are still afraid (even nowadays) and they "hear strange noises" as they pass by Sava's mill. 💀☠️ If you want me to write more about the strange events and the stories and film about Sava, tell me in the comment section below.
