Mt. Sneffels (14,150ft) has been high on my list ever since I laid eyes on its incredible North face. I have held off on it for years because I wanted it in a good style.
I finally nailed down the right partner for an ascent of the North buttress this past weekend. This route only goes at 5.6, but the incredible views, abundant wildflowers, confusing route finding, loose rock, and lack of other climbers made it a classic Colorado adventure.
On our descent, we looped back down though the Blue Lakes Basin, which is one of the most incredible places I've been to in Colorado (pictures to come). If you ever want to hike sneffels, put in a few extra miles and do it via Blue Lakes. Yankee Boy Basin is downright boring in comparison.
I'll most certainly be back on Sneffels for a winter descent one of these years. (Fun Fact: Mt. Sneffels is in the background of the front of the new Colorado ID cards)
