It’s appreciating the little things. I’m gardening organic this year. Cutting back on plastic and reusing existing plastic, I’m making a compost heap and growing plants for wildlife too. We’ve had an increase in the hedgehog population recently and of course many small garden birds visit like the long tailed tits, blue tits and cola tit pictured here
Took the sides off the compost heap to relocate which gave a nice snap shot of the compost heap at work. Some beautiful looking compost taking shape at the bottom that the Veggie Patch will love.
The tomatoes instead have not been cleared yet since the plants are still loaded with small green tomatoes at the top. However even in these beds (see second picture) I have planted a few more salad plants to see if I can get some harvest before frost.
Still getting regular handfuls of asparagus peas or winged beans. I grew the plants from seed and they seemed to be doing very little. Then came the pretty red flowers in August and I thought they were too late and I would just enjoy their prettiness as the Tudors did, but happily not. Best picked small, they are an interesting, crunchy addition to stir fry dishes. #asparaguspea #asparaguspeas #wingedbeans #gyo #growyourownfood #organicgarden #organicgardening #ediblegarden #kitchengarden #eatwhatyougrow #growyourownveg
The last large tomato harvest of 2019. It has been a strange season. I started two weeks later than normal due to cold weather. Then it got really warm, and now we are back to cold weather. Meaning the last month or more the nights have been too cold causing the tomatoes to split. I have never had this many split tomatoes 🤔 Hoping for warmer nights next year. 🙏🏻

Rice husk charcoal is ready!!!!! 👍 👍 👍 👏 👏 👩🌾
3..2..1.. 🍅 Tomatosauce! These cherries were growing outside, and when they get different periods of water 🌧️ or drought ☀️ the tomatoes burst open. They are still delicious in soup and pasta! #wastenomore #eatrealfood #organicgardening #growyourown #tomatoes
The beginning of a new season. Yesterday Milla and I cleared the beds from the last eggplants bringing the summer total harvest of eggplants to 32kg!
It was a decent year for summer vegetables, but not the best thanks to the late start due to unseasonably late frosts at the beginning of May 2019.
However I am really looking forward to trying for the first year growing kohlrabi and salads into the fall. Hopefully I will be able to grow them well!
