When we rush into labeling what is outside as negative, we are giving away our power to transform our response. We start seeing what is happening as an obstacle to our freedom, instead of perceiving it as a way toward expanding it and helping us grow.

If we perceive the outside as responsible for what is happening within us, our focus is naturally removed from improving our response and from the changes we could make internally that would improve our state of being and our situation right away.

The moment we pause and bring our attention inward, we stop trying to change what is outside for a moment. We stop trying to manipulate the external world and waiting for it to change so we can then change the way we feel and respond, and we start reversing the process.

A lasting and profound change always comes from within, as it sticks to us regardless of what happens. It’s the result of taking responsibility for our inner world and response despite what happens.

It doesn’t mean we won’t acknowledge what is harmful, but simply that we choose to consciously invest our energy in improving our response and what is within our control, instead of wasting it in trying to manipulate the external world. We then start to notice the outside falls into place with more ease and becomes more cooperative. We come to realize that our shift in state of being and response aligns us with a new direction and reality, and that our inward changes are more easily projected outwards. 🙏

I don't know about you, but the holidays for me seem to come and go quicker and quicker every year. Thanksgiving comes around and I blink and hear everyone yelling Happy New Year! What a rush, am I right?! 🎄But for real, I feel like everyone is in a rush these days. To get to work, to get shopping done, to get a tree, all the above and more. But do we take the time to stop and relax and embrace the moment? Most will say no. I know I am a victim of this easily. Between wrapping up a masters degree, applying for PhD's, working a full time job, and trying to do every possible festive thing this month, I definitely don't take the time to enjoy and live in the present moment. 🎄Because I know so many struggle with this around the holidays and even year round, I wanted to share some mindful tips and tricks to stop and embrace each moment this holiday season. yes, even amidst the crazy thing we call life. ;) 🎄1) First thing's first. STOP. If you catch yourself in a whirlwind, tell yourself to stop and actually stop. 🎄2) To-do lists are a game changer!! Each morning or night before, create a to-do list of top 5 tasks that MUST be done that day. Add 1 more task of self-care. Creating lists and checking tasks off creates a sense of accomplishment. 🎄3) Learn to say “no.” Oh goodness, the amount of times I’ve said yes without even thinking of myself or tone is outrageous. I’m naturally a helper and a people people pleaser, so I can give all day long. However, I’ve learned you can’t pour fro an empty glass and taking care of myself and saying no to things is completely okay. If you’re overwhelmed or know you’re going to be exhausted, say no. There’s no need to justify why you can’t go to that ugly sweater party or why you can’t host that dinner. Saying no can be so empowering and even an act of self-care. It prevents burnout and encourages peace of mind. 🎄Friends, take care of yourselves this holiday season. Slow way down and embrace the time spent in each moment.
