Ingredients:

Semolina(rava) - 1 cup
Water - 2.5 cups
Onion- 1/2
Tomato- 1/2
Green peas, carrot, beans 
Green chillies- 3
Ghee- 3 tsps
Curry leaves and coriander leaves
Urad dal- 1 tsp
Mustard- 1 tsp
Chana dal- 1 tsp
Turmeric- 1/2 tsp

Preparation:
1. In the pan, add ghee and once it becomes hot, add mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal and wait till they splutter, to add curry leaves and green chillies.
2. Add onion and once they turn translucent add turmeric and sautรฉ for a minute.
3. Now goes in tomato and all the vegetables.
4. Sautรฉ them till they are almost cooked and add water to boil.
5. Finally add rava and salt to taste.
6. Yummy rava khichdi will be ready in 5 minutes.
7. Garnish with coriander to serve.

You could even add peanuts or cashew for a little crunch. I did add 7-8 cashews to the khichdi. 
Still not sold? Have a bowl of khichdi, when you really need a day to detox and relax,  you cannot help hide how you feel light on body and the mind.

I am going to simplify the heck out of it!

The first thing you need to know is what AYURVEDA is. In plain words, itโ€™s an ancient study of medicine that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. Thatโ€™s all you need to know for right now.

In Ayurvedic medicine, the body is believed to be made up of three parts. These parts are called doshas. The names of these 3 doshas are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Still with me?

Every human body is thought to have varying amounts of each dosha, and we experience perfect and divine PHYSICAL health when our doshas are balanced. It is theorized that when we achieve this balance in the body, our spiritual, mental, and emotional health will follow suit. Does this make sense, or am I already getting too โ€œwooโ€? K, keep going anyways.

Our โ€œdoshic compositionโ€ can change depending on the weather, the seasons, and our lifestyles. This is why we like warm foods when itโ€™s cold and cold foods when itโ€™s warm. These are simple concepts, I promise! But, primarily, we will have one dominant dosha that rules our food preferences, our energy levels, our fitness regimens, and our habits. Kinda like our blood type.

For example, I am a Kapha dosha. This means that even though I have some Vata and Pitta elements in me, I resonate almost year round with Kapha.

Kaphas like to be comfortable, eat warm foods, and do things at a slower, more relaxed pace. They are ruled by the earth element, so theyโ€™re grounded and enjoy human life here on the planet (especially the finer things). The Kapha home is cozy, with vibrant colors that stimulate their energy levels and has lots of plants, flowers and blankets.

Vatas (people who are primarily the Vata dosha) are full of energy and always moving and doing something. They eat many small meals a day, are typically fit and athletic, and highly creative and fun-loving. They are ruled by the air element and fly through life like the wind. Their homes should incorporate a sand, sea, and sky palette in order to soothe their rapid-moving nature, as well as have lights on dimmer switches and other calming elements.

Kaphaโ€™s do you know one?  A kaphas personality is sweet, loving and loyal. They are the people at the party or social gathering making sure everyone else is okay.

Earth and water are both by nature: dense, heavy, cold, static and dull. Since these are the qualities that comprise these elements and these elements are what create kapha dosha, then kapha dosha is characterized by these qualities as well.

Kapha dosha is the force of stability due to the grounded, stable elements that create it. A kapha-type reflects earth and water in their physical, mental and emotional being.

Earth and water are both by nature: dense, heavy, cold, static and dull. Since these are the qualities that comprise these elements and these elements are what create kapha dosha, then kapha dosha is characterized by these qualities as well.

Kapha dosha is the force of stability due to the grounded, stable elements that create it. A kapha-type reflects earth and water in their physical, mental and emotional being.

Day 2 of #hALOedGround,  Kapha/Earth/Heart openers - ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ I married a predominately Kapha (but heโ€™s definitely a Kapha-Pitta). Kaphas are cold, heavy, slow to move but full of stamina. Itโ€™s a nice match to my Pitta-Vata. Kaphas need movement to stay in balance (hence our love for travel). I chose puppy for today because itโ€™s low to the ground. Kaphas need to start low and slow and slowly build up the heat. Heart openers are extremely warming and a great way to warm up the cool kapha. ๐Ÿ–คHosts:

We are finding ourselves deep into the Kapha season here in western Canada and I sure am feeling it! At this time of year things are slow, wet, cool and dark. Right now we should be looking to lighten up our recipes and move away from some of our heavier oilier dishes we have been eating throughout the Vata season. This is easy enough to accomplish by adding in some greens, sprouts and drier grains and seeds also try cutting back a little on the fats and heat things up a bit with some warming spices like dry ginger and fenugreek. There are plenty of other warming spices in the ayurvedic arsenal you could experiment with as well like cumin, black mustard seed and even garlic if it agrees with your constitution. It still feels chilly out and I know it is tempting to continue to reach for those unctuous comforting foods but this will not help us move through this Kapha sluggishness that sets in. Besides adjusting our diet there is another thing we can do to avoid possible lethargy in the mind and stagnation in other bodily systems, we can get things moving! It does feel harder to get out and go in the late winter months especially if you have rainy muddy conditions where you live but on those days we can still get the blood pumping indoors. Choose a few of your favourite yoga poses (asanas) and spend some time on the mat or play some tunes and dance it out! Dancing has been shown to improve state of mind resulting in a more positive overall outlook. So for the next little while let us remember to keep it warm keep it moving and spice it up! โ €
