For the last decade, I’ve been the Intractable Insomnia Queen. Unable to fall asleep at night. Utterly exhausted during the day. Literally nothing (including handfuls of sleeping pills) in the last decade has improved my sleep. After 14 mos on dapsone, I was so drained that I set my sights on figuring out how to get my body back in rhythm. How can any treatment help if I can’t sleep? Equally frustrating is the fact that I’ve been incorporating and studying good health and wellness practices for over 20 years. Was I some special breed of unhelpable?

Finally, I’m starting to crack the code and see results! I dug into some old books and found a wealth of new ideas, and I was shocked to learn that some of what I thought I was doing correctly was actually wrong for my body (contrary to wellness messaging). If I gave my all to finish dapsone and hopefully see improvements, I need to give my all to recovering well, too. Here’s what’s helping so far, and with a little luck, I’ll be able to retire as a professional insomniac soon:
•To activate the parasympathetic nervous system (the calming, restorative system), I take at least three mini meditation breaks throughout the day of 3-5 minutes in length — longer if I really feel exhausted or stressed.
•My largest meal of the day is lunch, and my dinner contains complex carbs (The horror!). I love keto and paleo diets, but changing how and what I eat has made the biggest impact. • No TV, Netflix, etc in bed. Even if I’m too tired to do a lot of activities, I move to another room if I’m going to watch TV and I need to lie down.
• I put my blue light filter on my phone at 8:00 PM (a tip I learned from my pal @everydayexpert).
• I shut down all phone usage or TV watching by 10:00 PM.
• I do soft tissue muscle release with my foam roller before bed, focusing on the muscles along my neck, spine, low back, IT bands, psoas, and quads.
• My bedroom has one electronic device plugged in — my air purifier, but that’s it. Even my clock is battery-powered, and I leave my phone in another room.
• I try to go to bed at roughly the same time each night, and I wake up at the same time each morning. Cont in the comments...

Making Pesto using Raw Cannabis leaves.

From a nutritional perspective, raw cannabis can be included in the list of superfoods along with spinach, kale, and broccoli.

It contains proteins, minerals, vitamins, fibers, and antioxidants and is rich in digestible globular proteins, and the balanced proportions of essential amino acids (the amino acids that cannot be synthesized in our body). Raw cannabis has an ideal ratio of omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids with antioxidant properties. Antioxidants are important for our overall well-being, as they preserve health, boost the immune system, reduce the risk of heart diseases, diabetes and lower the risk of cancer.

Consuming raw cannabis will not get you high, as it does not contain THC instead, you will be consuming the acid forms of these components- Cannabidolic Acid (CBD-A) and Tetrahydrocannabonolic Acid (THC-A). Just like other components of raw cannabis, CBD-A and THC-A are also very good antioxidants.
The best part is it tastes like regular pesto. The raw cannabis leaves can also be added to smoothies and salads. 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱 Come learn more about the health benefits of cannabis this Thursday at 6pm at the Sahara West Library.

There is an incredible connection between the skin and the brain. ⁣
The stress axis in the central nervous system is also found in the skin. ⁣
When a stressful situation happens, it' very likely to manifest on the skin first, for example as a rash, or as eczema or psoriasis.⁣
⁣
This is why a holistic approach to healthcare is so important. ⁣
⁣
Ayurveda effectively resolves skin conditions by addressing both psychological imbalances- through reflection and meditation, and physical imbalances with advanced body therapies, herbal medicines and correction of diet and lifestyle.⁣
In this way, Ayurveda nourishes the bodily tissues and calms the mind, and both of these aspects are integral to improving skin condition. ⁣
⁣
Look at your body, and listen to its messages. Acne breakout - is something irritating you? ⁣
Eczema flare-up - is something causing you to feel anxious? ⁣
⁣
Have you ever thought about the reverse effect? We know the organ of our sense of touch is the skin - we feel things through and on our skin. So if stress and repressed emotions can cause skin problems and positively improving mental states can improve skin conditions, can nourishing the skin and applying healing touch to the body, help to calm the mind? ⁣
Absolutely, in fact, a gentle loving touch (massage) can alter gene expression which triggers positive neuronal development, relaxation and increased wellness. ⁣
In my clinic, Ayurvedic massage incorporates deep breathing, guided meditations, herbal medicated oils, and the most soothing stoke sequences to deliver a healing sense touch to the skin which translates through the nerves to the brain and can help to heal a disturbed psychological status of a stressed-out individual and hence can heal skin conditions.
We are currently undergoing landscaping projects if you would like to book a massage, send me a DM & read my previous post for more info. ⁣
⁣
Next bookings available on SAT 29th, and during the first week of March, ⁣
TUE 3rd (morning only), THUR 5th, FRI 6th & SAT 7th. ⁣

Repost @drjoshaxe ・・・
Conventional products can be some of the most toxic things in our homes.

These products often contain toxins called endocrine disruptors, which essentially mess with the way your body produces and uses hormones. Long-term stress and disruption on this system can lead to breast and prostate cancers, PCOS, early-onset puberty and more.

The good news is that removing endocrine-disrupting toxins from your home doesn't have to be overwhelming, and can be carried out over time.

If you're looking to start removing toxic products from your life, these 4 steps are a great place to focus your efforts.

Head to the link in my bio to learn why removing these products is important for your long-term health, plus find out my suggestions for replacements!

The link between gut health and hormones

Most people don’t think much about what their hormones are doing. Especially if you are dealing with gas or bloating or digestive problems….why should you care?

The problem is when your hormones start to get out of balance, It can bring your entire body down.
Your hormones (also called your endocrine system) are your body’s way of communicating with every single cell that lives inside you. So imagine the domino effect it will have if just one of your hormones isn’t doing it’s job?

Studies have linked endocrine dysfunction to conditions like:

Thyroid disease
Fatty liver disease
Fatigue
Weight gain
Brain fog
Anxiety
Depression
Constipation

The reality is that if left untreated, endocrine dysfunction can lead to more serious conditions like cancer, cardiovascular disease, obesity, autoimmune disease and dementia.

I’ll be talking about the link between gut health and hormones in a FREE upcoming 9-part docu-series called The Healing Key.
Plus there are 75 other health experts sharing valuable information.

Check out how far Sausage has come!!! Teeth chattering unfortunately is not a sign of affection but we love to see him acting like a wild squirrel again and clearly feeling much better. Our next step for his rehab is a round of acupuncture. This is a pretty expensive procedure but we feel that it will really be beneficial in his recovery.
