6 week follow up for my stress fracture was yesterday after work. 
GOOD NEWS! 
My fracture is pretty much healed 🙌🏼 I get to wean myself out of the boot over the next few days and wear gym shoes for the next 4ish weeks ALL THE TIME while my bone continues to heal and harden back up. 
I will me wearing the boot for my workouts for the next two weeks to make sure I’m good and don’t overdo it 🙃

Then I’m to keep the boot handy in case I do start to feel pain again. 
I’m still limited on moves I can do without the boot on with my workouts (no lunges 😭 or squats or jumping), but progress. I honestly didn’t think I’d be released to this point yet. 
Doc is hopeful that by the beginning of October I’ll be back to my badass workouts, teaching all of my classes again and back to me #crossyourfingers #goinginsanefromlackofcardio #stressfracture #footinboot #footpain #hashimotos

Toen ik begon met het Auto-Immuun Protocol volgen heb ik hier zelf namelijk heel veel aan gehad! Het geeft veel steun en inspiratie om te weten dat:
1) Je niet alleen bent!
2)Jij niet de enige bent die zich voelt zoals je je voelt: de vermoeidheid, pijn, frustraties, zorgen, beperkingen
3)Jij niet de enige bent die heel goed is in zich sterk houden, maar ook af en toe niet anders kan dan toegeven aan je lichaam die zegt: nu heb ik rust nodig!
4)Er zoveel anderen zijn die hebben ervaren dat het Auto-Immuun Protocol (AIP) helpt!
5)Het dieet en lifestyle aanpassingen vraagt, maar dat je nog steeds kunt genieten van lekker eten en van het leven 🤗

Wat ik het lastigste vind aan leven met mijn auto-immuunziekte (reumatoïde artritis)? Dat het niet van buiten te zien is! Een gebroken been is duidelijk, mensen houden er direct rekening mee. Een gebroken immuunsysteem is wat minder makkelijk te zien van buiten en mensen (inclusief mijzelf!) hebben de neiging te doen alsof er niks aan de hand is, verwachten dat je functioneert net als iedereen. Mijn grootste les van de afgelopen 17 jaar is: je moet eerst zelf je ziekte aandacht geven, voordat je dat van anderen kunt verwachten. De signalen van je lichaam serieus nemen en er iets mee doen. En ten tweede: blijf erover praten, zeker met de mensen die het dichtst bij je staan! Mensen kunnen niet zien hoe jij je voelt van binnen, dus geef aan hoe het met je gaat en wat je nodig hebt. Dit is wel een proces, is mijn ervaring. 🤷🏻‍♀️😌

Are you one of the people who was told "natural therapies have no proof or research", that "you just need to test TSH", or that you should "just take Thyroxine and "you'll be fine"?
Because those simply are simply not true. In this study medical benefits were documents in a matter of months, with a dosing of 25,000 IU/d retinyl palmitate which is Vitamin A. Of course, we should not all go racing out to buy straight vitamin A and just hope for the best, but as we cannot produce this nutrient in our body it is essential to be getting enough daily fresh foods and see a Naturopath for help if you need a supplement. Dietary intake of this vitamin is stored in the liver, then transported to where it is needed for a multitude of chemical processes. 
Foods rich in Vitamin A may include:

Green leafies: amaranth, broccoli, spinach and chard are best lightly cooked not raw to digest them

Orange fleshed foods: sweet potatoes, capsicums, tomatoes, oranges, squashes, carrots, rockmelons, pumpkins, mangoes

Animal intake from: liver (like pate), egg yolks, or milks including breast milk.

Over cooking and light exposure can reduce the Vitamin A content of foods, but as it's a fat soluble nutrient good dietary fats at the same time will aid absorption. Palm oil is high in Vitamin A but processing often removes it altogether. Young children need 2-3 sources of Vitamin A daily, and adults about double that.

I have very exciting news! I have made drastic improvements in that departement! I am SO excited I almost cried when my doctor gave me the news. 😭🥳 My Hashimotos is gone. (Chronic infection of the gland) and my thyroid is reactivating so much so that I will now slowly be reducing synthetic hormone intake‼️ 😃 until I’m completely free of medication! This is SO wild! I am SO happy! Health IS an option! 🌱

Recently a jury awarded more than $2 billion to a couple that contracted non-Hodgkin's lymphoma from using the glyphosate-based pesticide Roundup.💵

This isn’t the first time Monsanto (the corporation behind everything from aspartame to GMO’s to dangerous pesticides like Roundup) has been sued.
.
$78 million was awarded to a man who got cancer after his extensive use of Roundup this year.  Last year another man was awarded $78 million for cancer from the chemical.
.
The dangers of Roundup were hidden from us for years because Monsanto manipulated its own research, but more and more evidence is being revealed that it is extremely dangerous.  More than 13,000 lawsuits have been filed against Monsanto, and I predict there are many to come.🔮

How can you avoid it?  Choose organic, especially when it comes to grains.  The EWG commissioned two rounds of tests last year and found that 95% of oat-based foods contained Roundup’s active ingredient, glyphosate.  100% of wheat products contained the chemical😱
.
Some of my clients‘ health issues drastically improve by going gluten-free and/or grain-free.  What’s interesting is that some have noticed they feel fine ingesting wheat-containing products in other countries 😳 It could be a lower gluten content (we genetically modify our wheat to have a higher gluten content in the US) or a lack of preservatives, or it could be that they’re not using dangerous pesticides like this one.

It’s crazy what this company has gotten away with so far.  I’m glad the deceit and side effects are being revealed, and I hope this steers future policy/regulation in the right direction.  We need to ban these products from infiltrating our food supply🙅‍♀️

The dangers of Roundup were hidden from us for years because Monsanto manipulated its own research, but more and more evidence is being revealed that it is extremely dangerous. More than 13,000 lawsuits have been filed against Monsanto, and I predict there are many to come.🔮

How can you avoid it? Choose organic, especially when it comes to grains. The EWG commissioned two rounds of tests last year and found that 95% of oat-based foods contained Roundup’s active ingredient, glyphosate. 100% of wheat products contained the chemical😱

Some of my clients‘ health issues drastically improve by going gluten-free and/or grain-free. What’s interesting is that some have noticed they feel fine ingesting wheat-containing products in other countries 😳 It could be a lower gluten content (we genetically modify our wheat to have a higher gluten content in the US) or a lack of preservatives, or it could be that they’re not using dangerous pesticides like this one.

It’s crazy what this company has gotten away with so far. I’m glad the deceit and side effects are being revealed, and I hope this steers future policy/regulation in the right direction. We need to ban these products from infiltrating our food supply🙅‍♀️

Summer is coming to an end and that means lots of Tomatoes are in season.  Today we got heirloom and cherry tomatoes.  I grew up in Sacramento and saw trucks full of tomatoes driving down the freeway every Summer.  It’s always best to find organic Tomatoes to avoid pesticides.  We love to eat them sliced with sea salt and drizzled with basil olive oil, or wrap a cherry tomato in a basil leaf and pop them into our mouths until they squirt.  Tomato salsas from mild to spicy are another favorite to top a salad, bowl or taco.  According to the USDA, Tomatoes are good source of Vitamins C, A, K, B complex and potassium as well as antioxidants lycopene (gives them red color) and lutein.  Here’s my favorite Easy Blended Tomato Soup recipe:

EASY BLENDED TOMATO SOUP

3 medium ripe organic heirloom Tomatoes (or 1 pint of cherry tomatoes)
3 – 4 Sprigs of Basil
1 cup Spinach
1 – 2 cloves of garlic
1-2 radishes
½ tsp Italian Spice seasoning
Sea Salt to taste

Fluoride is not what it’s cracked up to be and there is mounting evidence which highlights the implications of ingesting fluoride.

Energy, weight, temperature regulation, mood regulation, muscle control and much, much, more. Every cell in your body (except red blood cells) have thyroid hormone receptors- it regulates how everything operates in your body. When there is insufficient thyroid hormone, nothing functions correctly and so many things can go wrong, which is why thyroid health is so important.

This then brings fluoride back into the equation….. why is it still being added to drinking water. This is only ONE of the implications fluoride has other the body. There are many more detrimental effects of this compound.

Yesterday was a rough endocrinologist appointment - despite slowly getting back to my routine I am still gaining weight. Honestly, it was just one of those days where I was over it all - so tired of having a body that I can’t control & that has been in so much pain lately. Of course it doesn’t help that my period is about to start so the PMDD/PMS is at its worst. So tonight I made some comfort food (chicken & dumplings) and had my favorite gluten free beer and chilled on the couch. Having a body that always seems to be fighting itself is difficult, sometimes all you can do is find the small comforts. ————————————————————Chicken & dumplings recipe is: take about 2 Tbs of butter and melt it in a large pot w/ about 3 cut up carrots, 1 onion, celery salt, paprika, herbs de Provence, and pepper - sauté until carrots start to become soft. Add about 4 cups of chicken stock (I use better than Boolean) and about 1/2 a rotisserie chicken (cut up). Add slightly more seasoning and put on simmer. Then plop uncooked biscuits in the stock (biscuits are 1 cup 1-to-1 bob’s red mill gluten free flour mixed with about 4 tsps baking powder and then mix in about 2 tbs melted butter and about 1/2 cup almond milk) - about 1 - 1.5 inches for the size of the biscuits. I did a course many years ago and used to use them a lot for various ailments, mood, clearing air when sickness in the house etc.

This was the first time I made cauliflower rice and it turned out amazing!  I sauteed zucchini and onions in olive oil before adding the cauliflower......So easy & delicious.

Sleep is super underrated in America and we need rest for a variety of reasons. Here are some reasons WHY?

1. It restores your body from the exercise you did the day before.

2. Sleep helps you to lose weight, especially around your midsection.

3. When you sleep you restore cortisol levels and are not stuck in fight or flight mode.

4. Sleeping allows for your brain to  reorganize everything that has happened to you that day; and retain the new information you are learning.

5. While your sleeping your cells rebuild muscle.

6. Sleep helps to restore your mind. You will be a nicer person to your family the next day.

7. When we sleep for 7-9 hours, you will be much more efficient and more focused.

8. Sleep balances out your hormones, and in particular your leptin hormone. When you are low in leptin, you are more likely to want sugar and carbs. This hormone also tells your brain when you are full, so if you are tired, you are more likely to overeat.

SOME TIPS ON HOW TO GET BETTER SLEEP:

Set an alarm at 9, so you give yourself a curfew to get off your phone and start your nighttime calming routine.

Sleep in a dark room and invest in some blackout curtains.

You sleep better in a cool room! 68-73 degrees is ideal.

Go to bed at the same time every night. Train your body to go through cycles of sleep. Your body will restore better and knows what to expect.

Give yourself the permission to rest. It's just as important as all the other stuff on your to do list. Us over achievers just need to stop!

I meant to post this last Thursday. We started that day a bit lazy, then Run Buddy Mobile came (the video is near the end of his run after he was already tired), after that he went to the backyard and played in his pool. Finally, we dried off and when he was ready fuller gi's nap he held onto my thigh to fall asleep.  It was a great day. 😊

In conventional medicine the standard test is “TSH w/ reflex T4”.

Scrap it. The actual ACTIVE form of thyroid hormone is T3 so—that’s also kind of important (free and total). In addition— most peeps with hypothyroidism have the autoimmune condition Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Which needs special antibody testing (anti-tpo and anti-tg).

To make testing even more funky up to 20% of Hashimoto’s are what we call “seronegative” (aka don’t demonstrate blood markers) 🤯 which means a biopsy is required for diagnosis (crazy you can have dysfunction and blood markers don’t show shit!)

If you are a provider click a few extra buttons to do the WHOLE damn workup. If you’re a patient— demand (kindly) a complete work up. If your provider says no— find a new one.

This is me right now. 6 weeks after starting my medication for thyroid, now comes the diet change.... 3rd week and already lost 2.5kgs and feeling so much better than before. Whole 30 Picadillo tacos a la Zetti (vegan and Keto modifications available below) 
Serving size: 4

Ingredients: 
2 to 3 tbs avocado oil 
2 heads of Romaine lettuce, separated washed and dried
3/4 of a medium white onion (1/2 finely diced, 1/4  to be used for the sauce
3 carrots peeled 
1 1/2 lbs of ground turkey
3 golden potatoes peeled and diced into small pieces 
3 cloves of garlic (2 for the sauce, 1 for the meat) 
1 tsp of dried oregano
1 bay leaf
1 tsp to 2 tsp of ground  smoked chipotle powder (you may use chili powder) - omit if you do not like spicy food 
1 1/2 cups of water 
4 Roma tomatoes cut into quarters 
Salt and pepper to taste 
Directions for the sauce: 
In a small blender add the tomatoes, ground smoked chipotle, water, cumin, 1/4 onion, 2 garlic cloves, salt and pepper and blend into a slightly thick sauce then set aside. 
Directions for meat: 
In a deep pan or Dutch oven add 2 to 3 tbs of avocado oil and cook the onion until it’s translucent.  Add ground turkey and cook meat until no longer pink. Then add garlic until fragrant. Follow up with the  oregano, potatoes and carrots and cook for an additional 4 minutes until potatoes and carrots are slightly softened. 
Add the bay leaf and sauce. Bring to a boil then cover and simmer for about 20 minutes or until the sauce is complete absorbed into the meat. If you like your picadillo saucy, leave uncovered. 
Serve on sheets of lettuce and voila!! Modifications- if you want to make this dish keto friendly, omit the carrots and potatoes and substitute with an additional 1/2 lb of meat. 
If you like your meat saucy, serve with cauliflower rice.

For vegan options- diced jackfruit can be used in place of the ground turkey.

Did someone say pizza 🍕? Here is a favorite recipe from a program I did last year. One of my favorite things about this program was that it was 4 days/week and it included weights 💪🏻. Having Hashimoto's (hypothyroidism) is one of the main reasons I began working out. Being told at 28 years old that I would have to take medication 💊 for the rest of my life scared me. Add on top of that the side effects which include increased bone loss and this was my cue to get moving. Weight bearing exercise was high recommended so that is where I began. 1️⃣8️⃣ years later and I’m still here lifting weights living my healthiest life❤️. ❌Don’t live life on the sidelines. ❌Don’t take a diagnosis and just take the pills 💊. You are in control🙌🏼 Now here’s that recipe👇🏻 BBQ Chicken Pita Pizza
(makes 1 serving)

2 💛yellow, ½ ❤️red, ½ 💙blue, ½ 💜purple

1 (6 ½ in)  whole wheat pita
2 T Maple BBQ Sauce
2 T shredded mozzarella
⅓ cup chopped, cooked chicken breast
2 T chopped red onion
1 T chopped fresh cilantro (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Place pita on baking sheet. Top with maple bbq sauce, cheese, chicken, and onion.
Bake 10 -12 minutes. Or until cheese is melted.
Sprinkle with cilantro; serve immediately.

Maple BBQ Sauce
(makes 12 servings; 2 T each)
½ 💜purple

½ cup tomato paste, no sugar added
½ cup water
¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
2 T pure maple syrup
2 T apple cider vinegar
¼ t garlic powder
¼ t onion powder
¼ t sea salt
1 t ground black pepper

Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl; mix well.
Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

I’m definitely not in San Diego anymore!!

New York is intense, humid, chaotic, packed, loud, noisy, smelly, exhausting.....AND,  it’s exciting, fun, alive, surreal, pulsing with energy, filled with every kind of person on the planet.

It’s such a contrast of freedom and congestion, nature and hustle, it truly feels like the heartbeat of the world when you’re here! It’s hard to imagine anything else even exists!!!

I can see why my daughter loves it so much, what an incredible opportunity for her to be here for college, to spread her wings and soar!
.
It’s been amazing for me to see how strong and resilient my body is, we have been going non-stop running around getting her organized for school. And it’s not easy like back home where you jump in the car and can run 10 errands at a time. It’s a LOT of walking, carrying and back & forth, multiple trips to multiple stores & back to her dorm. dodging people and keeping up with the fast flow....and I’m totally great!

Little sleep, tons of walking and carrying heavy items, unpacking, organizing, planning.

I’m definitely not in San Diego anymore!!

New York is intense, humid, chaotic, packed, loud, noisy, smelly, exhausting.....AND, it’s exciting, fun, alive, surreal, pulsing with energy, filled with every kind of person on the planet.
.
It’s such a contrast of freedom and congestion, nature and hustle, it truly feels like the heartbeat of the world when you’re here! It’s hard to imagine anything else even exists!!!
.
I can see why my daughter loves it so much, what an incredible opportunity for her to be here for college, to spread her wings and soar!
.
It’s been amazing for me to see how strong and resilient my body is, we have been going non-stop running around getting her organized for school. And it’s not easy like back home where you jump in the car and can run 10 errands at a time. It’s a LOT of walking, carrying and back & forth, multiple trips to multiple stores & back to her dorm. dodging people and keeping up with the fast flow....and I’m totally great!

Little sleep, tons of walking and carrying heavy items, unpacking, organizing, planning.

I don’t think I could have managed this even 6 months ago,🙏🏻

Yesterday my body hit a travel wall. When you think about it, it’s amazing I’ve lasted this long without hitting one. We’ve done 3 countries, 4 cities, and 3 time zones in just 10 days and all while averaging about 10 miles a day on foot!

I tried everything to feel better, naps, caffeine, nothing was cutting it.

I thought to myself, “what would you do at home if you were in a funk?” And then it hit me! It’s been almost a week since I’d pressed play on my last workout and my body was craving that good, intentional, sweat session! 
So after dinner, I went down to our hotel’s gym, took @jerichomcmatthews with me...even in Thailand!😉 and got in workouts 21 and 22 out of 100 from my program!

I originally wasn’t planning on doing both but my body wasn’t ready to quit after one! (And yes I’m wearing #chacos check out my stories if you don’t know why! ☔️) The best part is, even with 2 workouts, I was done with everything in 45 minutes and I felt
SO
MUCH
BETTER!

Pain receptors in our abdomens function a little differently than pain receptors in--for example--our muscles, so we sometimes have a hard time distinguishing where pain is coming from.
. 
A lot of organ pain actually refers to other places. In other words, we might feel kidney pain in our hips, even though our kidneys are in our mid-back.
.
 This is one of the reasons why issues like endometriosis can be so difficult to figure out. If we have pain in many of these places due to organ adhesions, doctors may be more concerned about appendicitis or kidney stones and miss the signs of what's really going on.
. 
Notice that ovary pain often refers to just below the belly button. I see a lot of pain and tension here in my endometriosis (and PID, IC, PCOS, etc) patients.

Environmental toxins from whatever source contribute to hormone imbalances, weight gain, inflammation, depression, insomnia, just to make a few.  With over 80,000 chemicals in our environment, it is hard to be 100% toxin free but there is so much we can do to minimise our load and make sure our bodies detoxification channels are working at their best. An autoimmune disease can be pretty hard to identify, which was the case with me. It all started with my struggle with infertility and it was a long and winding road to the path of diagnosis. Happy Tuesday lovelies!
Getting creative had been a wonderful outlet as of late and its it's been a minute since I've taken a selfie. 
I just havent been in the best place to take one these days, so this is me twisting my arm a bit, to show myself,  underneath the chronic illness and all that comes with it,  there is still a little sparkle, even though I've been feeling quite extinguished as of late.
I don't need pitty, or anything like that... But it is important for people to understand, that it is isolating and looking on the bright side of things, isnt a cure all, and it is ok to feel what you're feeling. 
It is even more important to bring awareness to things like chronic illness, anxiety, depression, trauma ect....acknowleging these things isnt defeat, quite the opposite, it is healing and makes us feel less invisible, more valued. But we need to not stigmatize  people who go through it every day, bravely ,in strength, saying it can be solved/healed with a vitamin, or they are just needing to cheer up....truth be told, those who walk through these fires are far stronger than you may think, as they do all that you do, while aflame.

Happy Tuesday lovelies!
Getting creative had been a wonderful outlet as of late and its it's been a minute since I've taken a selfie.
I just havent been in the best place to take one these days, so this is me twisting my arm a bit, to show myself, underneath the chronic illness and all that comes with it, there is still a little sparkle, even though I've been feeling quite extinguished as of late.
I don't need pitty, or anything like that... But it is important for people to understand, that it is isolating and looking on the bright side of things, isnt a cure all, and it is ok to feel what you're feeling.
It is even more important to bring awareness to things like chronic illness, anxiety, depression, trauma ect....acknowleging these things isnt defeat, quite the opposite, it is healing and makes us feel less invisible, more valued. But we need to not stigmatize people who go through it every day, bravely ,in strength, saying it can be solved/healed with a vitamin, or they are just needing to cheer up....truth be told, those who walk through these fires are far stronger than you may think, as they do all that you do, while aflame.
