A belated #flashback
The sign designated the end of the maintained trail.
Today is my first total day off from structured workouts in ten days (though I did walk 80 minutes home after work, because active living is just part of my lifestyle). I don’t take scheduled days off and prefer to listen to my body; I was worn out and unenthusiastic about hitting the gym post-work, so I decided to rest.
That said, the past week has been a strong one- letting my motivation to run rise naturally has resulted in higher mileage, combined strength + running days, and a couple workouts, all because I ran when I felt like running rather than forcing it. Overall I feel good and I’m going to continue with this strategy while I don’t have any races on the horizon.
I’d like to build to a point, hopefully by the end of the year, where I’m “half-ready.” Basically, if someone told me there was a half marathon in a month, I’d be at a point where I could run it in a reasonable (not necessarily a PB) time, which would also set me up nicely to work on my shorter distance goals (or build from, if I suddenly got the urge to do a marathon). I’m sure I could complete a half now but it would be more painful than I’d like it to be.
So, with that in mind, even though 60min+ runs still don’t hold a lot of appeal, I’m sure to have some in the future.
