Carrying excess body fat around your middle can increase the risk for diabetes, heart disease, stroke, cancer and dementia. New research published less than a month ago at the journal “Neurology” suggests that being overweight may actually cause certain areas of your brain 🧠 to become thinner.

Specifically, being overweight is associated with reduced grey matter, the part of the brain containing most of the neuronal bodies associated with muscle 💪 control and our sensory perception, including cognition, vision, hearing, speech, memory, emotions, decision making and self-control. Loss of grey matter may be associated with risk for stoke, headaches and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

These results indicate that “being overweight or obese may accelerate aging in the brain by at least a decade.” Prioritizing your health is the key. Starting from a young age is the best, but even at midlife (ideally before your 40s) can significantly decrease the risk of cognitive problems later in life.

Bottom line: keep a healthy lifestyle, including nutritional foods good for brain health and lots of movement, prioritizing connections and some great sleep!

This is Thai chilli basil chicken stirfry without sugar. One of the few restaurant meals I can eat without consequence. The owner cringes and dreads to think of how poorly her food would taste without sugar. I tell her it’s delightful. She gives me lemon. I enjoy every bite. 
Meanwhile, tasting my partner’s green curry, I can get through barely a quarter teaspoon without wanting to pass out. It’s an explosion of sweetness such that a savoury dish tastes more like confectionery. 
I just don’t know why restaurants feel the need to drug us so heavily with sugar and God knows what else! It’s their prerogative of course and probably a cheaper way to make a dish more tasty. 
But the tide is changing towards a more whole food style-menu. People generally don’t want unnecessary baddies in their food.

I have felt a deep connection to nature for as far back as I can remember. I have always felt better outdoors. Running, roaming, riding.  I watch my daughter shift instantly when we step outdoors and the wind hits her little curls. How she lights up as we reach the access point to the beach. It’s innate.

Many women will experience mild to severe cramping at one point in their life, and for some, this is a monthly battle. In most cases, the following can cause an increase in intensity of cramps: endometriosis, low progesterone, stress and fibroids.

Regardless of what the cause is (as each one deserves a separate post of its own!), below are some tips to help you minimize the misery of cramps and maximize your ability to function, when all you want to do is stay in bed:
.
✅Cramp bark: taken a few days before the cycle starts and during the first couple of days, as frequently as four times per day can help minimize cramping symptoms.
✅Magnesium glycinate: highly absorbable form, can relax the smooth muscle and decrease intensity of cramps. Take in powder or pill form before bed and in the morning.
✅Essential oils like lavender and clove combined with a little bit of almond oil (or other oil) and applied to the abdomen can have a soothing effect. You can apply a heat pack over this as well.
✅Wild yam and vitex: taken daily, can naturally improve progesterone. However, in severe cases, BHRT progesterone can be very helpful!
✅Red raspberry leaf tea: a great uterine tonic, can improve circulation and overtime minimize symptoms of endometriosis and fibroids.

It was an 80’s takeover at Deer Run yesterday for the 2nd annual “Kendall’s Drivers for Hope” golf tournament. The weather was perfect, the people were rad it was so good that in 80’s terms, it was baaaaad!

Ginger has been known for a long time to sailors as a solution for a sea-sick stomach. However, it also has amazing anti-inflammatory properties. So if turmeric isn't doing it for you, try ginger! A sliced, medium sized root boiled in water for about 10 minutes will make a great tea for a headache, an upset tummy, and any inflammation. Anti-inflammatory ingredients all seem to be spices used in Indian food, so apparently they all know what they're doing!

Curcumin is one of the compounds that we know two defeat inflammation. It is also known to decrease Reactive Oxygen species (ROS). Furthermore, curcumin exhibits the activity of several kinases related to the delegation of cartilage.

Inflammation of the cartilage may occur due to several processes such as an increase in the expression of enzymes, increase in the formation of ROS. Consequence of this is the loss of Type II collagen and glycosominoglycans resulting in the degradation of the cartilage.

BAM! WOW! HUGE! BIG! ♥️ that’s my body  on the left before Scars and ♿️. I know, but that’s the purpose to draw attention to body issues in art. But it’s also an issue when you have to go back and tell the Framer they did it all wrong and you show them the paperwork for quality control. (Always get it in writing and save it.) Outcome, they are going to redo it at no charge and reduce the rate.  It’s a shadow box frame and it’s supposed to be shadow boxes. I won’t say who it is because it’s the first time they’ve ever messed up a framing order. 🖼  I got three more to go, so they gotta get this one right or I gotta go elsewhere.

Podriamos decir que es un problema que debe enfrentar el ser hablante, ya que en la constitución del lenguaje, al perder el instinto, queda un resto que funciona como objeto causa de deseo.

Utilizamos la famosa frase de Lacan: ¿Has actuado conforme al deseo que te habita?. Porque si bien el deseo es deseo del Otro (por la constitución misma desde el nacimiento), muchas veces el deseo está regido por la sociedad no sólo de la manera en que los discursos proponen gozar sino también con el fin de forjar una identidad, de sentirse parte, de unirse a algo, de tener algo en común.

Desde niños somos condicionados por paradigmas que nos impone el seno familiar y el entorno social indicando de que forma se debe desear. Por dar tan sólo un simple ejemplo: "si soy mujer debo desear el color rosa y cocinar, y si soy hombre no debo desear el color rosa y me tiene que que gustar usar la fuerza o jugar al futbol". Medimos nuestra felicidad y deseo según el modelo de éxito que se nos impone: llegar a conseguir tal puesto o tal título, conseguir mucho dinero, etc, sólo para cumplir con obligaciones y no porque realmente se lo desee.

Y sigue Fromm: "El hombre moderno (...) teme profundamente asumir el riesgo y la responsabilidad de forjarse sus propios fines. Este piensa, siente y quiere lo que él cree que los demás suponen que él deba pensar, sentir y querer; y en este proceso pierde su propio yo. As I stand between these wine barrels in a 100+ year old cellar, I am acutely aware of the dichotomy of Life.

Sometimes things are good. And sometimes they’re not.

Bigger question is WHY does Life seem chill & effortless like grape juice fermenting into wine, and other times it feels like a clogged up spicket with staining liquid contents spewing out exactly where you don’t want (see: white dress/shirt)?!?

Like the contents of a wine barrel, most the time, Life is pretty chill. If you come from a spiritual perspective like myself, I believe the staining spewing moments are to guide us toward lessons we have signed up to learn.

If Life were chill all the time, we wouldn’t grow. I get I’m not saying anything revolutionary here, just know, I am writing this as much to remind myself that the crappy moments are really put there by design. For my and YOUR growth and ultimate happiness.
