Have you heard of “Rest and Digest?” Your body is made to respond to stress with certain hormones that actually decrease your digestive capabilities, which is no big deal if they’re switched off when you’re eating, but are they?⠀

If you often eat in the car, while distracted (hello TV or answering emails), while arguing with a family member, or even just while you’re still making the meal or cleaning up, your body is not in rest and digest, and you’re not maximizing your body’s digestive capability.⠀
⠀⠀
There are several ways you can maximize your digestion that are not only simple, but they’re free! Can I get an amen?⠀
⠀⠀
1. Practice gratitude - praying before you eat, or simply taking a moment to be grateful for the food in front of you helps your body prepare to eat and focus on the food in front of you.⠀
⠀⠀
2. Sit down when you eat. Do your best to minimize all distractions other than talking to the others you are eating with. (And try to make mealtime conversations peaceful whenever possible!)⠀
⠀⠀
3. Take 5-10 deep, cleansing breaths before you start eating. Let the stress of whatever was going on before go, and let your body know you are safe and it’s ok to start the digestive juices flowing.⠀
⠀⠀
4. Chew. Your. Food. Maybe you think you’re already doing this, but practice chewing your food 15-20 times before swallowing each bite. You may be surprised how much more you’ll be chewing than what you’re used to!⠀
⠀⠀
5. Avoid drinking fluids, especially large amounts of fluid or ice cold fluids with meals. This dilutes your stomach acid and enzymes, making your digestion less effective.⠀

I’m willing to bet most of us know and respect the golden rule: love others as you love yourself.⠀

But what if we flip it around? Love ourselves as we love others. ⠀
⠀
I don’t know about you, but that short, little sentence is pretty convicting. In all honestly, I’ve been learning a hard lesson about self love lately. Unintentionally, I tend to speak to myself in ways I would never talk to my husband, best friend, or even a stranger.⠀

Talk about an eye-opener!⠀
⠀
I’ve come to realize that these thoughts and words are not only lies, but they are most definitely not from the Lord.⠀
⠀
To actively fight these lies and poor habits, I’ve started speaking positive declarations over myself every morning. These are some of my favorites:⠀
I am beautiful.⠀
I am loved and known.⠀
I am healthy and strong.⠀
I am wise and capable.⠀
⠀
Why have I decided to speak these declarations? Because my tongue is powerful- more powerful than I would like to admit. And I know, that despite how I feel about myself, the way Lord sees me never wavers or changes. I want to see myself that way, too!⠀

For something to “bloom” energy is put forth and a cultivation period is created. It takes time to see the results or the “harvest” of our efforts. Just because a seed is planted and it hasn’t bloomed yet... doesn’t mean we should dig it out and rip it up. We must have faith in the process and trust in the timing. .

This concept brought me motivation and peace this morning as I applied it to my health journey. Although, I’m not feeling 💯 yet... I have seen improvement, I have faith i am on the right track, I have faith in my body and that it is working for my good. I have faith in God and that He knows my “growth” period intimately. I will trust in the process and when the time comes for my “harvest” I believe unimaginable energy, joy and gratitude will be felt 🖤

Type II Diabetes is a growing epidemic
🍭🍩This is not by chance, it's because of the way we are eating. Processed grains, sugar and starchy carbohydrates are eaten in much higher quantities than ever before and the consumption of non-starchy vegetables are subpar at best. Once you are diagnosed with type II diabetes, you have a greater chance of developing kidney disease, eye complications, cancer, neuropathy, cardiovascular disease and more. Often referred to as the silent disorder, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is actually one of the most common hormonal imbalance disorders that affect women and is strongly linked to infertility (72% of women with PCOS may experience infertility).⠀

It also highly correlates with diabetes, insulin resistance and blood sugar dysregulation which is why suffers are often prescribed diabetes medications such as metformin.⠀

Whilst these drugs bring relief, they do not address the underlying problem and girls as young as 12-14 are being prescribed these meds for long term use.⠀

Symptoms of PCOS include:⠀
•	Irregular periods⠀
•	Weight gain/difficulty losing weight⠀

•	Increased hair growth on the face and abdomen for women⠀
•	Thinning scalp hair⠀

Humans are naturally wired to focus on danger in our surroundings for survival purposes. Translated in modern times, with busy lives and constant pressures, it’s easy for us to adopt a chronic state of stress. But research shows that chronic stress is destructive to our health. ⁣⁣

So I miss placed my phone earlier today and wasted a good 20 minutes frantically searching the house for it.
I then stopped, and thought to myself...hey, maybe this happened for a reason?
I proceeded to go for a walk with my dogs, and no phone to be a distraction...I survived!
It’s crazy how almost dependent we are of our phones now a days. This is a reminder that “un-plugging” is 100% OKAY, and actually beneficial in the long run✌🏼.

What happens when you run a Gi Map and the results are relatively clean but you still have major symptoms? 
I get many clients like this.  The Gi Map is a great test, but sometimes it doesn’t have all of the answers. 
There can be a few reasons your gut may still be a mess despite a clean Gi Map.

1) worms like strongyloides aren’t picked up yet but the GI Map

2) you have mold.  Mold lives on any mucousal surface. This means the gut lining. It can cause a whole host of gut issues including severe food intolerances.  And it isn’t tested for on the Gi Map 
3). You have rope worm.  Whether it’s caused by viral or Lyme infections living in the nervous system of your gut or by something else - this infection can be a digestive disaster 
4) SIBO - small intestinal bacterial overgrowth is at play. This lives in your small intestine and requires a breath test. .

So what exactly happens to cortisol in response to stress?

When the body is functioning optimally your cortisol is at a good baseline level. When the body encounters an acute stressor like being chased by a bear perhaps..your body cranks out that cortisol. The rise in cortisol triggers the fight or flight response and prioritizes survival over things like digestion and reproduction.
Then when the stressor is dealt with, cortisol drops back down to the happy baseline level. The idea is the process continues as we meet acute stressors cortisol rises, then drops back down. Then up and down, you get the picture.
Problems arise when stressors no longer become acute, but rather chronic like maybe a hidden gut infection, emotional stress etc. Our body has to continually compensate by pushing out cortisol. These consistently elevated levels of cortisol or staying in a sympathetic state(fight or flight) may at first make us feel good-remember my last post about cortisol being anti inflammatory and pain relieving? Eventually though the good feelings wear off and things like stomach troubles, skin issues, weight gain, blood sugar problems, headaches etc start to creep in. 
Eventually our body can no longer compensate and our cortisol levels drop down but not in the healthy way. We basically run out of steam. You’ve heard the term adrenal fatigue and the problems associated with that? Well the more accurate term is HPA Axis dysfunction, the process involves much more than our adrenals. That lack of steam also causes some health issues that can progress into things like chronic pain, heart disease, diabetes etc. Stay tuned for more on that to come!

This is a much more experienced movement so many beginners will not be able to complete a proper swing until they understand hip-hinge movements.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
However, if you have kettlebells available, this is one of the best full body exercises you can do👌🏼⁣⁣

The problem? I see people, that think they’re doing this movement correctly, doing it wrong sooooo often🤦🏼‍♀️⁣⁣
⁣⁣
KB swings are meant to target your posterior chain, but also work many other muscles (hamstrings, glutes, quads, hips, core, back, traps, shoulder stabilizers & forearms- for the grip)💪🏼⁣⁣
⁣⁣
𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬:⁣⁣
⁣⁣
1️⃣The swing is a 𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞, not a squat. If you don’t feel a stretch in your hamstrings w/ each rep, you are probs bending your knees too much⁣⁣
⁣⁣
2️⃣The swing is EXPLOSIVE, not passive‼️you need to “snap/explode” your hips forward, back into standing position⁣⁣
⁣⁣
3️⃣Do not lean back at the top of the movement. Keep your core engaged and squeeze your glutes at the top.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
4️⃣Let the weight of the KB be what brings you back down. Once your in a standing position, keep your core right and allow the KB to fall in between your legs, just below your glutes.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
5️⃣The KB only goes as high as your hip explosiveness, not based on how high you want it to go. If you’re really explosive, it could come up to parallel. If not, it won’t come quite that high.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
As I said, the KB swing is one of the best movements you can do, but if you’re not doing it right, it’s either pointless or you could seriously injure yourself!⁣⁣

Be smart, take a video of yourself, and get some outside advice on your form tips to ensure you’re doing them properly🙌🏻

And that's how I see it.  Bringing my best self and energy to a session for the clients brilliance to come through. 
And did you know just by believing in someone's brilliance they improve their performance by at least 10-15%. Some places say more..... And im pretty lucky to work with some pretty brilliant people.

Evelyn started having a lot of respiratory issues when she was about 2 1/2, it started with just a croupy cough one night when she had a cold, then progressed to really frequent upper respiratory infections, like every 3 weeks!⠀

She wouldn’t just get a sniffle, she would get really sick, and for her ER and ICU nurse parents, we don’t really blink an eye unless something serious is going on. She kept getting these colds, which would progress to her having labored breathing, wheezing, and needing breathing treatments.⠀

We went to her pediatrician and they said she “might” have asthma but that she was too young to really diagnose it. No big deal though, just do this steroid inhaler twice a day and breathing treatments when she needs it and she’ll probably grow out of it.⠀

I just couldn’t find it within myself to be okay with that. I KNEW there had to be more to the issue, and that it wasn’t right for my baby to be so sick.⠀

We continued to struggle for almost a year, I did my research and we tried a few elimination diets, all without being super committed because I didn’’t really know if I was on the right track. I spent a lot of time worrying about her getting sick, or worrying when she actually was sick, and continually looking for ways to help her get better!⠀

We finally found a functional doctor, took dairy out of her diet for good, and did some GI testing (she had significant bacterial balance issues) and treatment, and for the past year she has been SO MUCH BETTER! It’s been almost a year since we last had to do a breathing treatment, and I’ve finally stopped being stressed every time I hear a child cough anywhere near her.⠀

Last night’s dinner was so delicious and SO EASY to make! 
When transitioning from a SAD (Standard American Diet) filled with pre-packaged processed foods to a whole foods diet, one of the biggest mistakes I see people making is trying to over-complicate cooking real food. They spend countless hours flipping through recipe books and websites. 
Sure, I look up recipes from time-to-time when I want to make something specific, but generally there is no recipe involved. With some meat, vegetables, and some spices, the options really are endless, and you don’t always need a recipe to make magic. Just ingredients.

Last night’s dinner was a no-recipe meal, as are the majority of my meals. 
The ingredients included:
✅ Wild caught salmon
✅A few cloves of garlic, chopped
✅Coconut oil
✅Broccoli, chopped
✅An onion, sliced
✅A red pepper, chopped
✅Coconut Aminos
✅Crunchy almond butter
✅Water 
Here’s how I did it:
1. I let my salmon filet rest on a salt block for five minutes. I then mixed in a bit of chopped garlic with some coconut oil and spread it on the salmon filet, which I grilled skin-side down for 5 minutes.

2. I heated some coconut oil in a large saute pan, then threw in the remaining garlic, broccoli, onion, & red pepper. 
3. I sprinkled in some coconut aminos. I didn’t measure, just eyeballed it.

4. I added a few spoonfuls of almond butter to the vegetable coconut amino mixture and stirred it in, then added a few tablespoons of water to create a saucy texture. 💥The results were DELICIOUS, and there was no recipe involved, just ingredients added to a pan. 🌟If you have the basics: meat, veggies, healthy fats such as coconut oil, olive oil, or fat from pastured animals, and spices, you have everything you need to make nourishing meals without spending hours hunting down recipes.
