I really thought things were making such a great turn for me, you know? I am finally in this beautiful space, gifted with all of this time to heal and focus on myself and just be surrounded by nature's beauty. But mold. That son of a 🤬. I mean I live in Georgia where it's extremely humid and hot. My house is older, built in the 80's, and the landlord isn't very vigilant. He has neglected the home in many ways that we actually ended up fixing things and upgrading it ourselves. 🔨
▪︎
But receiving a Q4 ERMI test (should be under 2) & 36 (should be under 10) result on the HERTSMI-2 with FIVE of the top toxic mold species present in high numbers, sent me into tears. Actually cried loudly. Ugly. 😭 This is too much to handle. I mean I saved up and spent thousands of dollars on moving down here, buying my family brand new beds, new bed sets, our couch is new, a futon, pillows, home decor, etc. And now what?! You guys, I'm struggling with this. How do we as a chronically ill community heal like this? How do we financially pay for doctor visits, holistic treatments, healthy food, non toxic household products, herbs, supplements, BEDS AND HOMES?! And to go through mold toxicity twice in one year?? 😰 #icant
▪︎
They say a specialist will be out to test it "at their convenience". I have a hard time being firm with people who do not understand the severity of my situation, so right now I'm feeling all the things. Wanting to yell "screw their convenience, this is my life lady!" But instead just calmly saying "sooner than later please." 🥴 Lord hold me through this because I can't do it without you. Prayers for us are very much appreciated. 🙏

If you’ve been exposed to mould from a water-damaged building or contaminated food, then you’ve likely been exposed to mycotoxins. Among other things, mycotoxins wreak havoc on your gut.
.
SIBO or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth is a condition that occurs when too much bacteria grows in the small intestines. It can cause a range of issues such as bloating and abdominal pain, nutrient and carbohydrate malabsorption, fatigue, and inflammation.
.
It’s really common to see SIBO develop due to mycotoxin exposure. If you’ve been diagnosed with SIBO and it is either resistant to treatment or quickly relapses, it may be worth assessing for mould.
.
It’s common to see mould exposure as an underlying trigger of SIBO. And you are unlikely to solve your gut issues without first addressing the mycotoxin issue.
.
If your home or workplace has any history of water damage then mould is likely - even condensation may be enough for mould to grow. You don’t need to see mould for it to be present. .
So if you’ve got gut issues that you can’t resolve, consider mould.
.
Reviewing with a practitioner experienced in mould assessment and treatment can be a good starting point. Having your home assessed by a certified building biologist is another good option. If you want more info, feel free to DM me.

SONDER⁣
💫⁣
I first remember hearing about this word in a meditation and it really struck a chord with me.⁣
The meaning behind the word is “the profound realization that each passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.”⁣
🦋⁣
Before I got sick, I don’t think I paid much attention to random strangers. When we’re busy going about our lives, it’s so easy to get caught up in our own world. We tend to forget that every single person walking down the street is going through something. They have their own worries, fears, self limiting thoughts, issues, traumas, goals, and dreams. ⁣
💫⁣
When we are forced to slow down due to an invisible (or visible) illness, many truths are uncovered. The biggest truth for me is to withhold judgement. You never know what a passerby may be going through, be it mentally or physically. ⁣
🦋⁣
Sure, it looks weird to wear sunglasses in a store, but maybe that person suffers from sensory issues due to brain inflammation. Someone with a neck brace may have EDS (not a broken neck 🙄), someone with a face mask may have MCS or a compromised immune system (not a germaphobe 🙄) and someone in a wheelchair, *shocker*, may be able to walk. Moral of the story: judge less, be kind to others and step off your high horse before life does it for you ✌🏼

If your home is making you unwell due to mould, you may also need to be cautious of dietary mycotoxins.
.
Individuals with mould biotoxin illness (CIRS) are more likely to react to low levels of mycotoxins in a variety of common food. .
You may need to eliminate or find ‘safe’ sources of these foods:
.
🥜 Nuts - particularly brazil nuts, peanuts, pistachios 🌾 Cereal grains - particularly maize/corn, oats, rice, wheat 🍇 Dried fruits - such as currants, figs, raisins, sultanas ☕️ Coffee 🥩 Grain-fed meat / grain-raised eggs 🥤 Fermented drinks ▪️Dried spices 🥛 Dairy products
.
If you do consume these foods, how they are produced, processed, and stored can make a difference.
.
✅ The fresher these foods are the less likely they are to have contamination
❌Avoid buying from bulk food suppliers
✅ Buy food in smaller amounts
❌ Don’t eat any food that has visible mould
✅ Store in air-tight containers
✅ Choose fermented drinks/foods that use a probiotic starter culture of known strains rather than wild-fermentation.

This is your Monday night reminder that you are allowed to do just one thing at a time ✨ -

Learning to slow down hasn't been easy, over the last year I have had to made a conscious effort to do less after years of always pushing myself to do more. It is so important to take time to look after yourself and relax. I have always put a tremendous amount of pressure on myself in every aspect of my life, spending my days multitasking from the second I wake up until the second I fall asleep. We are not made to be busy every waking moment and that unsustainable lifestyle is bound to end in a burn out. -

Do you find yourself doing too much?

I know a big part of my healing & detox is moving my body. It's a tough thing sometimes for me because I'd rather not lol. 😴 But I went out, bought myself some new workout clothes & shoes, got a gym membership & my man is power walking with me in the early morning. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ So many uphill streets thooooo. 🥵
☆
I used to actually LOVE working out. I would go to the gym by myself every day after work when I was a single mom and run 1-2 miles on the treadmill, lift some weights and I never missed my twice a week Zumba classes. 💃 Since getting really sick 4.5 years ago, it's been a really big struggle for me to have any desire for exercise. Let alone having the energy for it. But I know that it's necessary for not only my physical wellbeing but also my mental health. 🧘‍♀️ Even if I just walk in the mornings.
☆
This morning was beautiful; we got to see the sunrise 🌅 and listen to the birds sing. 🐦 There was also a mist over the lake & trees that was just gorgeous. 🏞 It was just really peaceful. It was sweaty & hard but it was peaceful. 🧡 I'm so grateful for this man & how he supports me relentlessly everyday. His dedication to me and my journey is a rare thing and I don't take it for granted. 😭

If you’ve been exposed to mould, the use of a ‘binder’ can be crucial to clearing mycotoxins out of your system. The Shoemaker Protocol recommends the use of the pharmaceutical cholestyramine, however, there are a range of effective natural binders that can be used and that are often better tolerated.
.
Knowing the type of moulds you have been exposed to can assist in identifying which binders are going to be most effective. You can either test your home or test yourself to find out.
.
Some of the most common natural binders include activated charcoal, food grade bentonite clay, and zeolite. However, there are others that are also worthwhile considering.
.
Binders are most effective when used in conjunction with other strategies using herbal and nutritional medicine. If you are interested in finding out note, feel free to DM me.
