🤓 PART 2. Thyroid + loss of eyebrows
So based on the response to yesterday’s post, lots of you with a thyroid problem have had issues with your brows so I’m following up with a second instalment.
Yesterday we learnt that not enough of the thyroid hormones T4 + T3 can disrupt the growth phases of your eyebrow and eyelash hair leading to loss of the outer third, but what if your levels of T4 and T3 are fine?
Well then the hair loss could be due to an #autoimmune
aetiology —> I.e. the Hashimotos component of your thyroid issue... Yep, as well as attacking your thyroid gland, those pesky thyroid auto-antibodies have been found to attack the hair follicles (yep there are thyroid receptors everywhere including your hair follicles!).. Lymphocytic infiltration (these are white blood cells that present as a marker of immune cell activity) have been found to surround the hair follicles in their anagen phase invading the outer root sheath, preventing them from growing ☹️ Don’t just rely on TSH as a diagnostic marker, get your thyroid antibodies tested too!
So to grow the eyebrows, hair, eyelashes etc back we need to work on modulating the immune system and getting those thyroid auto-antibodies back into normal range.. There are so many things that have been shown to modulate the immune system (they don’t all work for everyone as we’re all a bit different) but things to try are sunshine, stress management, selenium, inositol, hormone balance & diet changes
to name but a few... Again, because hair growth is slow you need to be patience, it will take at least 6 months to see a difference x #hypothyroidism #thyroidhealth #thyroidwarrior #caringbahnaturopath #autoimmunedisease #womenshealth #thyroidsupport
