Every expedition is in need of guardians.
I felt as though we were standing watch, surrounding this pint-sized human as she discovered what a mountain means to her. We paused often, not because she was tired, but because she wanted to feel each tiny piece that made up this landscape. The sharp, little rocks and delicate flowers. And in those moments I became more aware.
So I silently entreated: Never let it die, that childlike delight with the intricacies of nature. Hold on to that innocence forever. Keep discovering what nature means.
