When I was young, I loved to hear stories, fairytales, like every kid, and the first fairy tale I remember was my favourite one, it was Mom's own story, now she tells me,
It was story of garden with every colored flower with every colored fairy who lived in it, yellow, pink, blue, purple, orange, every color. So was the red fairy, laal pari, who lived in Red rose she was the prettiest, her house most beautiful, catching every eye that looked at it. Most attractive and that's what she thought of herself. When all other fairies played and talked together, she wouldn't go with them for she was the BEST. Naturally, they all hated her.
Then one day, a storm came. All other fairies helped each other and got to shelter but Red was alone so she couldn't. When the storm settled, she got ill but no one came to ask about how she was? Or they might not have noticed her absence coz she never played with them.
She, then, finally realised there was something wrong with her and it was, 'arrogance'. Os ne Ghuroor kia tha. She went to them and apologised for her behaviour and promised to never do that again. They accepted her as a good friend and then they lived happily ever after.
NOW, when I think about it, it gave me, a kid, very first lessons of her life,
Ghuroor won't get me anywhere in life.
- If anything could save me in a STORM of my life, it's making and keeping, friends.
- Teach your kids(not just as a mother but as a phupho, khala, neighbour, teacher, a friend) from the start, tell them stories instead of handing them YouTube. Give them good story books as soon as they start reading. Life would be easy for them even if they're caught in storms around.
